Gems and cameos (winter 2011/12) date from antiquity through the 19th century and are largely from impressions in the Beazley Archive in the University of Oxford, with some gems from the Sculpture Research Archive in the University of Cologne and Lexicon Iconographicum Mythologiae Classicae. New data providers will broaden the range.

The art form has an unbroken tradition from antiquity to the present. Precious to semi-precious stones offer a range of colours, varied subjects and settings, which can be ancient or modern. Impressions are exact copies made in a variety of materials, for example plaster (upper, 2nd from right).
