Western ceramics (winter 2011/12) are ancient, mostly Greek, and largely from the Beazley Archive in the University of Oxford, with some from the Sculpture Research Archive in the University of Cologne and the Lexicon Iconographicum Mythologiae Classicae. New data providers will broaden the range.
Ancient Greek is original, plentiful, rich in subject matter and widely exported in antiquity. Its shapes, styles and techniques of decoration enable the objects to be dated closely, making them invaluable to excavators.
